May, 2022

May 1st - Glorious blossoms of a myriad of colors from Dogwood trees and azaleas. This was a special day to add to that - music! The Chapel Hill Philharmonia performing our only concert at the end of this season.  It was a thrill to play the program featuring the Overture of Mozart's "Magic Flute", such fun, Bizet's "Carmen" also fun to play, ending with Beethoven's 7th symphony.

May 3 - Kate, now 18, has been made Soccer Player of the Year at Trinity! I was able to attend her last match of the season, and she made 4 goals that day! Two days later, I went to James' track meet at another school. He did very well there too, and at the end of the season was awarded for Track and Field at the All-Conference.

May 6-7 - The universities of UNC and Duke did not forget us for their graduations after 2 years of no presentations in their locales. The Chapel Hill Brass Quintet having at least 15 years for the UNC School of Dentistry graduation, was back in the Carmichael Arena.  Our string quartet also was able to play again, at long as 15 years, for the Duke Graduate Liberal Studies graduation  at the Washington Duke Inn. It's a fascinating self-designed master's program - students of all ages learn their interests, questions, needs, their background and vision for their own future. At  graduation, several students are selected to talk about their dissertation, and the topics are always fascinating.

May 22 - Like me with the orchestra, Dan has missed his time with the Maplewood Men's Glee Club, but finally, they presented a great program together with the smaller group and an excellent high school choir. I was able to watch it on my IPadhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tpo-2R1FY18&authuser=0

Dan is furthest on the right singing his heart out, considering it's "All you need is Love"                           Tiger enjoyed it while checking out the birds.

May 23 -  Ben was a dear friend Judy lived in Tennessee.  He worked with her for many years and were firm friends. I met him through Judy and is a dear friend for the family. We miss Judy very much. How she would have enjoyed a highlight with us when we went to see the new Downton Abbey movie! We laughed and cried and loved every moment. Movies like that takes you out of your hasty days, being able to look and listen to each of the casts for 2 hours. We ended the evening with a delicious dinner at Squids, a good fish restaurant.

The rest of May has been carrying on with teaching privately and at the Chapel Hill School of Music Arts. Finishing up the school semester at Trinity is on June 2nd, and Graduation is on June 3rd. Family from Wisconsin and New Hampshire  are coming down to see Kate graduating. Next month, more about her future at the college of her choice.

Love to all

Jane
